Lasagne

Serves 6-8

You will need the Bolognese sauce for this dish.

Ingredients

 

40g (1½ oz) plain flour

55g (2 oz) margarine

568ml (1 pint) milk

Pinch of black pepper

Pinch of salt

Pinch of grated nutmeg

110g (4 oz) grated cheese

6 Lasagne sheets

Method

Stage 1 - Making the white sauce:

  1. Put all ingredients into a small pan
  2. Stir continuously with a whisk until boiling
  3. Turn down and stir regularly for about 2 minutes, then remove from the heat
  4. Add the pepper, salt and grated nutmeg
  5. Add ¾ of grated cheese (saving the rest for the topping) and stir in gently until it melts

 

Stage 2 - Layering the Pasta:

  1. Take a rectangular oven-proof dish and put a layer of the meat sauce across the bottom of it
  2. Add a layer of lasagne sheets
  3. Add a layer of white sauce, working from the corners in towards the centre of the dish
  4. Add a layer of meat sauce working from the centre outwards
  5. Add another layer of lasagne sheets
  6. Add a layer of white sauce, then top it off with the rest of the grated cheese

 

Stage 3 - Finishing off:

  1. Put in to the oven at 180C and bake until top is browned
  2. Remove from oven and allow 10-15 minutes standing time before serving
